Google Core Updates - June2021

It's Official Now - the most eagerly awaited Google core updated has been rolled out on the 1st of June 2021, and the tweets by google confirm the same

It’s also called “Core web vital updates” there was another tweet that said the update will be rolled out in 2 phases as they are not completely ready and this would happen in July.

What is a core update and how is different from other updates?

A core update focus on the broad improvement of Google search, unlike the category specific search result such as ex: Google product review update

Generally, core updates take 7- 14 days to complete. Well, in this case the updates seem to be rolled in 2 phases as the tweet confirms there are some issues as its not finished completely, and therefore another release is scheduled in July, so to sum up it could really take up to end of July for the updates to be stabilized and them to release across all regions.

Shortly after the release there was another tweet which warned people about the two-part release that any gain or drop that was experienced in the first phase of update might get normalized in the second core.

Its quite common that a dynamic change in terms of website traffic might occur whenever an update is rolled out. But sometimes if there is a negative drop off this could be attributed towards the algorithm that’s released, which evaluates & reevaluates the patterns, therefore whatever happens in next few week don’t Panic or don’t Celebrate until the end of July and the final results is where you can prepare for the next step.

So how to be prepared?

A few thoughts are to keep your website are:

  • Lean

  • clean

  • light

  • Minimum plugin

  • Simple theme

  • Fast-hosting provider

Typically, the algorithm changes actually take 20 – 30 days to affect all the sites based on the region of rollout.

What Should you do now?

Do not panic and don’t do any major changes in your website until the end of July, post that a check your analytics and see how the traffic graph has been and you will realize the way the updates has affected positively or negatively. Then you may consider a web vital test to be run and then take the next step to improve.
