Updated: Mar 21, 2019

The largest state in northern India, Rajasthan literally means land of the kings, A traditionally rich state that comprises of rich culture, peaceful sand dunes, Majestic forts and much more is offered by this State of Rajasthan.

We planned a fifteen days Road trip to Rajasthan, the initial idea was to Ride the motorcycle from Bangalore, but time was a constraint, instead chose to Hire a motorcycle from Jaipur. The ride distance is 1722 km, excluding the inter destination ride. The itinerary was to start from Jaipur, Jodhpur, Pushkar, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Bhangarh and finally head to Agra in Uttar Pradesh.

The Motorcycles

Jaipur - The ride start point - The pink city offered some great stunning remnants of a bygone era with its old buildings and architecture, The City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Nahargarh Fort, and the markets were somewhat we could visit and the experience was enthralling.

Pushkar - The next leg of the journey was towards to Pushkar which is 137 km via NH48 this can be covered in 3 - 4 hours based on number of pit stops, Pushkar is well known for its camel fair, Pushkar lake and the only Brahma temple in India, There is a certain magic to Pushkar that one will realize when they walk through the bazaar street, cafes along the street, an interesting handicraft market and as the sun goes down there is a magic to this tranquil town.

Jodhpur - We started early the next morning and started riding towards Jodhpur which is at a distance of 185 km; it’s also called the Gateway to Thar, and the Old city of Jodhpur known as blue city, as most of the houses are in shade of blue. The Jodhpur Haveli, old city, Mehrangarh Fort, the spice market were on our list to visit, a dinner overlooking the Mehrangarh fort topped the list as our best experience.

Jaisalmer - A Medieval trading center with its distinct yellow Sandstone which is unique to this region, this is one among st the only living forts in the world, walking through the Haveli will take you back in time and see the grandeur of a bygone era. Dining at the rooftop Restaurants overlooking the fort and the market, a camel safari to the sand dunes and an overnight camp in the desert was an experience unlike other.

Alwar - A last minute change in the ride plan made us skip Bikaner and we had to head back to Jaipur, after a day's rest we started riding to Bhangarh was on the next list, Considered one of India's most haunted forts, The fort is situated on foothills of sloping terrain, entry to the fort is restricted after sunset, along the path of the fort complex are ruins of houses of (Nachni ki Haveli) dancing girls, a temple, we were asked to leave the complex by sunset and the sight of the Bhangarh fort is hauntingly beautiful.

Agra - The next destination was Agra, Riding from Jaipur to Agra is an amazing experience, took us around 5 hrs to reach Agra, We found a home stay close to the "Taj Mahal" we could not wait until morning for our scheduled visit. We were at the ticket counter waiting in the long queue at 5:00 am, the ticket counters open one hour prior to Sunrise, The first look, once you move in through the gates and looking at The Taj, is at the break of dawn is an experience like no other, we spent till mid-afternoon and then started our ride back to Jaipur which concludes our trip of Rajasthan, Hoping to revisit Rajasthan and relive the experience.
