A motorcycle ride to Ladakh is a dream for every motorcycle enthusiast, riders plan this mega journey for months, once you start the engine and start your ride, you will eventually realize the shortcoming in your ride and ride plan. Our route plan
We planned our ride from Bangalore to Leh with 6 motorcycles (Harley 883, Royal Enfield Himalayan, Royal Enfield Classic 500 & 650), there were a few first time riders and seasoned riders in the group. As we started our ride on 27 July @ 6 am in the morning we were greeted by Rains as monsoon had already set in.
The entire journey was filled with experiences of riding all day long on highways, beautiful as it is dangerous cliffs and narrow paths, and varied terrain as we Manali to Leh route, we also experienced trouble with our machines, a few accidents luckily no major injury to any riders, a few of us encountered altitude sickness, lack of mobile network post Manali actually was a blessing as it made way for more conversation and interactions among the group.
From the green slopes of Manali and Marhi, the landscape changes to that of a cold desert after Rohtang. As you ride, you will come across many waterfalls and patches of green on far-off slopes, a landslide in Pangong which made us realize nature has its own plans, we were stranded for about 24 hours and with the help of locals and BRO we were able to make it back to Leh.
Once you travel to the Himalayas and you will find faith and humanity that’s otherwise only found in posts on Social media platforms, you can find faith and humanity on every turn and corner and in every living breath you take. Humanity and compassion is a way of life for people who live in this region, they never hesitate you help.
There’s a Ladakhi saying which goes “the land is so barren and the passes so high that only the best of friends or the worst of enemies visit us”.
Below is the Pictorial journey of the motorcycle ride
